Do Expensive Cables Matter?
Expensive cables, and audiophile cables in general, are often the cause for much discussion. This week the crew at PartTimeAudiphile’s The Occasional Podcast jump into their own conversion on the subject, offering a variety of takes from a few different angles. A total of 5 contributors weigh in, each showcasing their slice of the vantage point into audio’s most hotly debated subject.
Their individual reactions might surprise you, depending on how much time you personally have spent with the accessory category. Also included in the show is an interview with Dan Clark of Dan Clark Audio headphones. His newest release is a planar magnetic closed back called the Stealth – full review here. The newest flagship from DCA actually utilizes meta materials in the tuning, and is one of only two products currently on the market that have attempted to use such tech in their audio products (the other being the KEF LS50 Meta). Dan jumps on the show to educated and enlighten on the subject, which is likely on of the very few new developments in the field of audio design in quite some time.
The Occasional Podcast has just launched into their sixth season. Previous episodes include interviews, how to’s and more from audio’s greatest talents, including another interesting conversation A View From The Booth: Reference Systems, Accuracy & Why Audiophiles Love Jazz So Much: and rare interview with the late audio legend engineer Al Schmitt. The finale from season 5 includes the yearly “best of awards” and you can also find episodes covering British HiFi, Subwoofers/Setup/Tips, and the how to: Budgeting From Entry Level To High End. Season 4 highlights include Joseph Audio, Pro-Ject Turntables, and Rob Watts. One can still download this season’s educational show with TOP’s Beginners Primer To High Fidelity Digital Audio alongside the latest on Two-Way Speaker Design. Fan favorite What Is Mastering? What Happens When An Album Is Remastered? is also still available as well. If you are interested in further exploring the analog realm, the Guide To Buying A Turntable (and records) might point you in the right direction.
