The Current State Of Music & Some Common Studio Misconceptions

Studio Misconceptions and the state of music

There is often a sense of mystery and magic surround how high profile music is actually made in the studios. The can also be some serious misdirection when it comes to how the populous actually views the process of becoming, and maintaining rockstar status. In this week’s episode of The Occasional Podcast, Garth Powell of Audioquest (and a professional Jazz musician himself) helps demystify some of the inaccuracies surrounding both of these topics.

Episode 4 is actually the second part to The Occasional Podcast’s interview with Garth. If you would like to catch a more “Top 5” drop on the show you can find it here in part one: 5 Things You Can Do To Reduce Hum And Noise In Your Stereo

As a special bonus, the episode also launches its AXPONA prep and preview for the upcoming audiophile event taking place this weekend in Chicago. Event staff Liz Miller and Mark Freed join the cast to share some of their recommendations when visiting the show, which has grown to be the biggest in North America with over 200 listening rooms. We will be reporting from the Windy City all weekend here at Audio-Head, so stay tuned for even more product announcements and sonic impressions over the next few weeks.

The Occasional Podcast is launching into their 9th season with this episode about studio misconceptions, but previous episodes include 5 things to consider when buying a tube amplifier, coverage of the Florida Audio Expo, interviews with Sean Casey of Zu Audio, how to’s and more from audio’s greatest talents, including Michael Fremer and Pacific Audio Fest 2022 Best of Show, another interesting conversation about the History Of The BBC’s LS3/5a Loudspeaker,  A Beginner’s Guide To Tube Amplifiers and A View From The Booth: Reference Systems, Accuracy & Why Audiophiles Love Jazz So Much: including rare interview with the late audio legend engineer Al Schmitt. The finale from season 5 includes the yearly “best of awards” and you can also find episodes covering British HiFiSubwoofers/Setup/Tips, and the how to: Budgeting From Entry Level To High End. Season 4 highlights include Joseph AudioPro-Ject Turntables, and Rob Watts. One can still download this season’s educational show with TOP’s Beginners Primer To High Fidelity Digital Audio alongside the latest on Two-Way Speaker Design. Fan favorite What Is Mastering? What Happens When An Album Is Remastered? is also still available as well. If you are interested in further exploring the analog realm, the Guide To Buying A Turntable (and records) might point you in the right direction.
