Sony’s Latest IEM Focuses On Noise Isolation

Sony has added a new entry point to its pro audio catalog with the IER-M500, a $119.99 in-ear monitor designed for both critical listeners and producers who need practical listening on-the-go or on-stage without drifting into custom IEM pricing.
Noise isolation is perhaps one of the most common features often overlooked in the IEM category, and certainly in the entry level options by Apple. The more isolation available, the greater potential for dynamics from your music – regardless if that outside interference is from street noise or your on-stage guitarist.
There is a healthy dose of ear tips and accessories included for an IEM at this price point (detectable cables!) and plenty of ear-stabilizing hooks to keep things firmly planted to your head. While the new Sony IEM might suggest a few cutbacks with its entry level price, it does include a few nice bonuses that even the high end of the market leaves out at times.

Inside, Sony has gone with a dynamic driver and an internal acoustic layout intended to provide a full-bandwidth presentation. The company is emphasizing controlled low-end output along with enough upper-range clarity for vocals, harmonies and timing cues to remain intelligible under live conditions.
Durability is also part of the pitch. The IER-M500 includes a removable 1.6-meter cable, useful for a product that may see regular packing, unpacking and cable swaps. The construction is also meant to handle moisture from working out or stage use.
Sony is offering the IER-M500 in three transparent finishes: clear, black, and a red/blue version that makes left and right channels easy to spot quickly. Pre-orders open July 8, 2026, with pricing at $119.99 in the U.S. and $169.99 in Canada.
For Sony IEMs, the bigger move may be strategic. The IER-M500 puts the brand into a highly practical, affordable corner of the live-monitoring market, where reliability and comfort can matter more than luxury materials or bespoke creations.
