Emotiva Launches Two New Subs and Stealth Series PA-1 Monoblock Amp
Every day that passes we start to collectively inch forward towards the big product launch season. First out of the gate mid-August appears to be Emotiva with a “Tripling” of their Airmotiv subwoofer selection (a.k.a. two more subs in addition to the S10 10″ already on the market). Filling out the natural progression for subwoofers of this nature, the new lineup will now consist of the S10 ($599), S12 12″ ($799) and S15 15″ ($1,199). On the lighter side of things, Emotiva still offers and 8″ BasX S8 ($199) and BasX S10 ($299). That’s a steady stream of low end coverage.
Aside from the obvious size differences, all Airmotiv subs offer downward firing drivers with a forward facing passive radiator. The 12″ utilizes a class D 500 watt internal amp, while the 15″ hits with 650 watts of MOSFET tech. The news arrives just in time for the CEDIA expo in early September.
Also up for display at the show will be a new mono amplifier dubbed the PA-1. Retail pricing lands at a reasonable ($299) per. That sticker price will land you a substantial 140 watts into 8 ohms and 300 into 4. The new amp combines ICE modules and a built-in switch mode power supply. Similar to the S10, both of the new Emotiva Audio Airmotiv subwoofers employ a downward firing design featuring a high-excursion passive radiator and high-output amplifiers. Cabinets are constructed of heavily braced, acoustically inert HDF (high-densityfiberboard), with integral shock absorbing feet and removable grilles.
Airmotiv subwoofer drivers utilize non-pressed treated paper cones, reinforced with aramid fibers, for excellent rigidity and optimal internal acoustic damping. The active driver features a powerful motor assembly with a large double-stacked ferrite magnet, and a 3” heavy-duty solid copper voice coil. Forced air cooling, a vented pole piece, and vents placed under the spider add up to hours of extended use under demanding conditions.
Front bezels are finished with multiple coats of black lacquer, while the sides and rear are covered in durable, attractive textured vinyl.
