Butcher Block Acoustics & The New RigidRack – AXPONA 2019
Audiophile racks come in all kinds of shapes and colors, but at AXPONA’s marketplace expo hall a new alternative could be found from the Los Angeles-based Butcher Block acoustics.
The new line of component stands is a mix-and-match approach centered around the company’s core product – heavy, dense wood blocks. Available in maple or walnut, custom arrangements can be ordered up in a variety heights, widths, depths and leg material. Carpet spikes or rubber feet round out the show for a presentation that founder Jim Whithorne says is inspired by danish modern design elements.
I’m a bit partial to the walnut look myself, the option does come at a slight premium in most arrangements here. Specs for the 3-shelf 42″ by 18″ are a hearty 108 lbs, or roughly a quarter of the weight any good floor stander worth it salt. A rudimentary tip test on the show floor with carpet spikes proved little wane or shake, each shelf is supported from underneath as well as from the outside connecting edge.
The three self rack in maple start at around $1k, with the same sizing in walnut starting at ~$1.4k. Pre orders are available via the company site, with shipping dates expected around late May.
