T.H.E Show Los Angeles – Schiit Amplifiers

This year’s Home Entertainment Show in Newport, CA was packed full of great sounds from desktop audio to high-end systems.  Headphone amplifier and DAC company “Schiit” (sounds like it’s spelled) had one of the best displays/presentation of any of the many many rooms I visited on the first day of this grand event.  While the cheeky name may strike some as odd, the room’s advertisement banners paid off on the name and were actually quite clever.  The entire product line was on display from the relatively low-cost USA-made Asgard/Bitfrost combo to the yet-unreleased balanced Mjolnir/Gungnir.I had a chance to audition the Mjolnir/Gungnir prototype at the last Head Fi meet at the Village.  I won’t comment directly on the sound as it is still in a prototype form, but I will say that this version of the combo sounds much more solid than the version that I heard just a few months ago.  If this is any indication of what is to come, I can’t wait to hear what the final product will sound like. The handy note that accompanied the amp was not an exaggeration.  This unit did run hot. So hot in fact, that even the volume pot was a bit heated to the touch!
