Audioengine Intros New Wireless Products

One of computer audio’s most audiophile-friendly brands has always been Audioengine. Their unmistakable grill-free look has been an icon of desktop playback for years. The US-based company has historically dabbled in the wireless world, incorporating tech from Bluetooth to 24-bit wireless DACs.
The first item up for consideration is the revamped A2+ Wireless ($269) which is a bluetooth-enabled version of their classic two unit computer speaker. The new wireless option includes the wider stereo field, of course and the hifi trappings of a full integrated system for under $300. The back panel still allows for an analog input, which was transparent enough to pass though increased fidelity from a high-end external DAC in the samples we heard.

The second item follows an industrial design that is becoming more and more common among sound sources, especially in the portable field. The 512 Portable Speaker ($169) boasts a 12 hour battery life and 2″ woofers with a 3×1.75″ passive radiator. Inputs include Bluetooth and 3.5mm analog inputs. At 2.5lbs and 7.75″ wide, the new portable should fit easily into a travel bag for boosted sound in your hotel room or an impromptu dance party.
