A Return To Chicago With Zach Mehrbach of ZMF Headphones

Zach is a pretty fun guy to make videos with. In a sea of engineers (who would probably rather be doing anything else than sitting in front of a lens), Zach Mehrbach of ZMF headphones takes the time to be open with this time and his company.
The video embed below gives a behind the scenes peak at ZMF’s new workshop, located just outside of Chicago, IL. In an effort to broaden his horizons just a bit, Zach ventures out from his lab to purchase a new turntable for his office speakers. ZMF as a company is primarily based around personal audio, but Zach’s experience with HiFi continues to grow with his experience designing, selling, and marketing high-end headphones.
If you would like to see another factory tour from the previous year (and a bunch more about Zach himself) check out these three videos from a visit before the new offices were fully moved in.
You can check out all Zach Mehrbach’s creations at ZMF Headphones, and follow even more of his on screen antics on his official ZMF Headphones YouTube channel.
More on Zach from the robots:
“Zach Mehrbach is the founder, president, and lead designer of ZMF Headphones, a boutique audio company renowned for crafting high-end, heirloom-quality wooden headphones. He began modding Fostex T50RP headphones at his dining-room table in 2011, translating his deep appreciation for vintage acoustic instruments into headphone design.
Mehrbach’s journey into high-end audio was a gradual evolution. While completing graduate school, he started tinkering with headphone modifications as a creative counterpoint to his academic workload. What began as a side project quickly became a fully realized business, with Zach turning his passion into a full-time enterprise by 2017—so much so that “ZMF” initially stood for Zach Mehrbach Films, reflecting his early career in filmmaking .
A self-described perfectionist with a background steeped in music, Zach grew up learning guitar and exploring diverse genres—from blues to hip-hop—fostering a profound awareness of tonal nuance . Today, he applies that understanding to his headphone designs, which feature CNC-milled hardwood cups, custom drivers, and a patented damping system aimed at delivering an organic, live‑music listening experience.”
