Amazon Releases A New Dot
Amazon just released an updated model of the budget voice-activated streamer called the Dot. Retail on the new version is now only $49. This is the only Echo variant that has an analog output, so connecting as a more traditional streaming solution (with stellar voice recognition) is possible with a little creative placement.
The new Dot comes in an additional color (white) which you can now get straight from the Amazon site, a much easier process to order than the previous iteration which could only be purchased directly through an existing Echo interface. As a bonus to the wired output, the little hockey puck also does bluetooth both ways for connecting a phone as a source or as output to separate speakers. The previous generation included a small speaker that has been compared to the sound quality you might hear from a mobile phone, but still would be considered suitable for alarms or simple feedback with the interface’s voice personality, Alexa.
Amazon is even making a push for a fully connected house by offering buy-5-get-one-free option at checkout. The roster of streaming services available for the Dot currently include Amazon’s own Prime Music (included with a Prime membership), Spotify, Pandora, and iHeartRadio. No word yet on any Tidal connectivity. You can check out our review of the older Echo and Tap [here].

In the past I had a couple Roku boxes, first and second generations. The Fire was on sale and on an easy payment plan so I snagged one. The really cool part is it has Alexa and makes finding content so flipping easy. From Amazon orders to the latest sport scores. Local weather? That and a bunch else is in there. You have to watch your language as she’ll scold you for cursing.
Agreed. It brings content even closer than your fingertips. The ultimate in listening convenience until they come up with a way to jack it directly into our brains.
