Sonus Faber Adds To The Lumina Line With The II & V

Sonus Faber Lumina II

Italian speaker maker Sonus Faber recently launched a more affordable collection called Lumina, which allowed for the same stunning good looks as the rest of the family, but distilled down to a reduced facing and simplified shape to keep the costs down. This week they announced two additions to the line, building out the mid woofer to 6″ (with additional cabinet volume) for the bookshelf form factor in the Lumina II, and updated electronics for the new flagship Sonus Faber Lumina V floorstander.

The new Sonus Faber Lumina V sees an internal upgrade to the classic “lute” shape for the high-mid driver’s chamber. This shape is something that is found throughout the design of more upscale lines like the Olympica Nova series. The crossover network also sees some trickle down tech from above. Branded as the Hybrid IFF – Paracross Solution, the design borrows some from the two way Maxima Amator that our sister site PartTimeAudiophile Marc Phillips loved so much in his review. You can check out his comments on that piece from the end-of-season awards in the hifi podcast, The Occasional Podcast.

More on the crossover network from the press release:

The mid-high crossover network “Hybrid IFF – Paracross Solution” range combines Interactive Fusion Filtering, first introduced in the Maxima Amator, with the Paracross TopologyTM, where reactive components (capacitors and inductors/coils) are placed on the negative rail of the circuitry. The resulting benefits include a reduction in the drivers’ back EMF (Electro Motive Force), allowing them to operate in a maximally interconnected and organic way, and lowering of crossover sensitivity to radio frequencies, further improving sound definition.

The Sonus Faber Lumina II and V will become available this month, with pricing for the II at $1,200 and the V at $2,800. Colors for the front baffle are some of the same from the Nova series with Walnut/Wenge with Maple and also piano black. Like the rest of the products Sonus Faber makes, leather can be found utilized in the in-lays around the tweeter assembly, a good look if you ask me.
