Focal’s newest $10k floor stander packs quite a punch. The new lifestyle-ish line has made the rounds at within the audio show circuit this year and comes in a variety of colors. The French three-way speaker is fresh off the vine and comes packed with the newest Focal sensibilities including a new Beryllium tweeter and a flax sandwich woofer cone. I’m not a big risk-taker but if I were, I’d go for the blue.

Audeze LCD-4

It’s a classic, but it doesn’t come cheap. The top dog from Audeze may have several variations out now in the field, but the original 200 ohm LCD-4 still sings at the height of the pack. Not for the feint of heart, wallet or neck, this $4.5k headphone heavyweight represents the pinnacle of planar magnetic technology in the portable space. 

Klipsch Heritage Klipschorn

The revamped Heritage line by Klipsch has been around for a few years now, but they keep adding products to the themed product line. The throwback aesthetics harken back to vintage days long gone by, but many of the innards have stood up well against the slow march of time. For a double dose of nostalgia, check out the three-way fully horn-loaded AK5 for $6k. The original Klipschorn first rolled off the production line in 1946!

iFi Pro iCAN Headphone Amplifier

It started with some interesting small UBS cleaner-uppers and broadened up to a wide list of personal audio and electronic accessories. iFi now even makes a true blue high end headphone amplifier if one is so inclined. The flagship piece offers both tube and solid state amplification, switchable on the fly. 

Apple Mac Mini (2018)

One of the original media servers favored by audiophiles has finally gotten a long-awaited upgrade to modern specs. After an extremely extended oasis, the latest chipsets and hardware come to the little Mac that could – along with a color change to space grey. While there are many more solid options for media servers now than ever before, those looking for a full-fledge Apple solution now have their upgrade-itis wish granted.

Fostex TH900mk2 Limited Edition 

The creamy flagship of the Fostex headphone line has a cherry cup that can be gazed at for days… sonics are not to shabby either. Now the company has a limited anniversary edition in Sapphire Blue to get lost in. The new cans are $1.6k and are the second iteration of the TH900, which now include detachable connectors for swapping in your favorite aftermarket wire.

Earplugs

The need to protect your hearing should go without saying. Damage to your music receptors is irreversible, so carrying a pair of these bad boys with you to any loud concert or club is just good form. The squishy foam ones work in a pinch (and are arguably the most comfortable) and several more long term solutions exist as well. 

HiFiMAN HE-560

One of the leading planars in the $1k range, the HE-560 by HiFiMAN is now in its third iteration. Known for its impressive bass slam partnered with articulate highs, this full-size, full-bodied headphone hangs in the halls with many of the greats of its time. Updates for the current gen feature a new headband, new colors and updated cable connectors.
