Danish loudspeaker manufacturer Børresen has announced the launch of the Borresen BM3 Bass Module, a new low-frequency solution designed to integrate with high-end loudspeaker systems while attempting to avoid many of the room-interaction challenges associated with traditional subwoofers. Developed by Michael Børresen and Flemming Erik Rasmussen, the BM3 draws heavily from the company’s work on its T- and M-series loudspeakers.
Folded Dipole Architecture
At the center of the BM3’s design is something called “folded dipole architecture”. A dipole-based system radiates sound in opposing polarities, intended to reduce room excitation and helping mitigate standing waves which could result in low-frequency bloom.
According to Børresen, this allows the BM3 to integrate more naturally into a listening environment, producing bass that is described as faster, more controlled, and less susceptible to room-induced coloration than conventional designs.
Driver Configuration and Mechanical Design
The BM3 employs four 8-inch Borresen DCC8 Neo drivers, arranged in a boxer-style configuration. The opposing driver layout is designed to cancel self-generated vibrations, contributing to mechanical stability and reducing cabinet-induced distortion.
Powering the BM3 is a 2 × 300-watt Aavik UMAC amplifier, based on Pascal’s latest switching technology. The UMAC topology promises low noise, reduced filtering requirements, and minimal output impedance, enabling tight electrical control over the four drivers. The BM3 also features a fully analog, adjustable low-pass crossover, operating between 30 and 80 Hz.
Borresen BM3 Availability and Pricing
The Borresen BM3 is designed and manufactured in Denmark and is offered in a high-gloss black finish with carbon detailing. The price listed at launch was defined as an MSRP is €18,000 – Prices Vary By Market. While having an international product for HiFi appear as different pricing in different countries, the current global market implications will undoubtedly play some role in what price it will take to get the new sub to land on United States soil. If you are familiar with the high end brands of Audio Group Denmark, then you will likely know they make some really good stuff. Our experience with their demo rooms at audio shows in the US has been very favorable, to say the least.
