DAP maker Astell and Kern are no strangers to partnerships with other portable audio gear. From their collaboration with Blue Note‘s 75th Anniversary to the distribution of JH Audio universal fit IEMs, their willingness to branch out from the core offering has let to some interesting opportunities. Their latest partnership pushes their reach a little further into new territory – teaming up with the long running Campfire Audio IEM brand for an entirely new IEM called the Solaris X.
The new variant of the 3-way hybrid IEM now offers a new “custom Balanced Armature (BA) driver for high frequency response that was designed specifically for the AK SOLARIS X.” More from the PR Release:
This driver is smaller in size than the ones used in existing Solaris models. The new custom BA driver produces a more neutral response in comparison to the current Campfire Audio Solaris 2020 model. Coupled with Campfire’s patented tuned acoustic expansion chamber (T.A.E.C.) technology, the new driver offers smooth and extended high frequencies. A Second BA driver provides rich delivery of the mid-range frequencies, and the custom 10mm dynamic driver optimized for the Polarity Tuned Chamber reproduces deeper and more refined mid-to-low frequencies.
The two BA and one 10mm dynamic driver IEM Solaris X comes with the usual accessory garb for universal fit earphones from Campfire. Well stocked with plenty of fitting options, the eco-friendly cork bag and silver cable come standard with the AK 2.5mm balanced connection. This last feature is a very nice a plug-and-play nicety for those who often struggle with the wide array of connection options for mini and micro sized balanced jacks out there.
Solaris X will still be hand assembled in Portland, OR and at launch will only be offered in a limited quantity. Retail price is $1,499 and launch timing is July.
